Using Houdini to fracture and simulate a statue crumbling into pieces and falling down
In this 3D animation I used SideFX Houdini and the RBD material fracture to voronoi fracture a 3D statue into small pieces made of concrete and then used the RBD Bullet Solver to simulate those fractured pieces crumbling and falling down. I used custom glue constraints to connect the large pieces together and have the glue constraints break apart based on the impact force.
The 3D model for the bressant statue was downloaded from ThreeDScans.

I then used Solaris and the Nvidia Omniverse Houdini Connector (Omniverse USD ROP) to export this simulation into USD, and brought the 3D animation into USD Composer for real time rendering using RTX Path Tracing with a 3080Ti. In futur...

    This is great and concise for the head, but how do I add body motion capture and have live link anim running on the same fbx rig do you know? I've seen lots of tutorials covering this with metahumans or separate head and body skeletons, but just like what you have here I can't quite work out how to have for example a single fbx rig with mixamo body mocap mixed with a live link head. 🤔 any thoughts would be appreciated

    Yeah the rendering times for the upscaling is rediculous. Thats why it pays to buy a dedicated rendering pc and use it for that purpose only. That is if you do a lot of rendering like me. I bought one of those highspeed cooling pads for the rendering pc (rtx 3070ti/ Intel I9), put a 5 gigabyte movie at 450 by 800 resolution in VideoAI to upscale to 2k (2560x1440) and either overnight it or 9 to 5 it. Either way 10 hours later I now have a 2k movie at about 20gb. And I then take this 20gb movie file size down to about 4gb by feeding it into Handbrake compression where it will keep the 2k details compressing it into much smaller files. That Hanbrake compression only takes about an hour though. I have a dedicated rendering pc, a dedicated DVR/tv recording pc and a regular everyday use pc. And they are all laptops.

      No it will not. I use Topaz AI all the time to render 2k movies that are 1.5gb which will take 10 hours, so probably closer to 20 with 4k. But a 3 minute clip will only take about 10 minutes for 2k in Topaz AI

    Ditch the duck, calm down, you're doing actions and not talking about them at all, you have a few OCD "squirrel" moments - focus - while your mouse is flying all over the screen you're clicking on or enabling random objects w/out explanation. *All of this from a Beginner viewpoint - there is no hurry and things will be smooth if you narrow down the objective (which is Hou to SP 3D), focus on it only, explain what you are doing, get rid of the duck it has no purpose for us out here in RUclipsland.
